The end of 2025 is quickly approaching, and with it, some significant changes to the health care landscape. For the first time since the Affordable Care Act was signed into law in 2010, the United States is on track to see an increase in the number of citizens who are uninsured and underinsured. Those with insurance will likely pay more – perhaps much more – for their health insurance coverage.

The financial toxicity associated with high health care costs is well documented, and we expect to hear from more patients in need next year as they grapple with these new, higher costs.

Michael Heimall, FACHE President & CEO

As anyone who has struggled to afford necessities like food, housing, and medical care knows, reaching out for help can be difficult – even stigmatizing.

We want to be clear that we warmly welcome those who reach out to us. Indeed, it is our privilege and honor to assist underinsured Americans so they can access critical, potentially lifesaving, medical treatments they otherwise cannot afford.

Read on to discover how – with your help – HealthWell is working to reach millions more patients who need us. Thank you for your continued support.

A Look Back – 2024 in Focus

Each year, we are honored to share highlights of our accomplishments and the impact our life-changing work has during a patient’s health care journey. We’re excited to announce our recently published 2024 Annual Report, which demonstrates our steadfast commitment to assisting underinsured patients, caregivers, and families in need. While the Foundation experienced significant changes in leadership in 2024, our Board and staff did not change our unwavering commitment to helping patients, as you’ll see by the number of patients we assisted through our program in 2024.

We hope you will take a few moments to review the 2024 Annual Report and share our accomplishments with your family, friends, providers, and patient communities to help us spread the word about our life-changing work.

New Fund Alert: ACA Marketplace Insurance Premium Assistance Fund

HealthWell has launched a new fund to provide premium assistance to individuals who have obtained health care coverage through an Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace plan. Through the fund, HealthWell will provide up to $2,000 in insurance premium assistance to eligible individuals with annual household incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Applicants for the fund must be enrolled in or newly enrolled in an ACA Marketplace plan (Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum), be eligible for the subsidy upon renewal, and reside in the United States.

Visit the ACA Marketplace Insurance Premium Assistance Fund page to learn more.

While HealthWell hopes to help as many people as possible obtain insurance through marketplace plans, funding is limited and we anticipate that it may be exhausted rather quickly, causing us to close the fund. We continue to seek corporate and individual donors to raise additional funding for this special initiative. Interested donors can reach out to Sarina Robbins, Director, Development & Growth at [email protected].

Making Connections at the 2025 Healthcare Advocate Summit

In early September, HealthWell was delighted to serve as the presenting sponsor for the 2025 Healthcare Advocate Summit. The three-day event brought together key players in medication access, health care navigation, pharmacy, reimbursement, and others united in their commitment to breaking down barriers to care.

In addition to meeting with like-minded advocates and other champions of the patient journey, HealthWell moderated and participated in several well-attended panel discussions:

  • Behavioral Health Services – Patient Challenges in Accessing and Affording Care
  • How to Compliantly Work with Charitable Patient Assistance Programs (CPAPs)
  • Addressing the Clinical Diagnosis of Financial Toxicity – A Deep Dive into Solution-Based Resources to Mitigate the Impact on Patients and the Health Care Community
  • Caregivers – Balancing Patient Care with Self-Care

HealthWell President & CEO, Mike Heimall, and Team cut the ribbon to open the 2025 Healthcare Advocate Summit

Special thanks to all of our compassionate panelists who joined us for the Summit. Thank you for sharing your valuable insights and best practices to ensure that every patient has access to the medical care they need and deserve!

Celebrate GivingTuesday with HealthWell

As we gather together this holiday season, let’s make health care a part of the conversation. We’ve helped over one million people who need us, but there are millions more Americans struggling to afford critical, potentially, lifesaving medical treatments. You can help us reach the next million by spreading awareness through our social media channels to your neighbors, friends, colleagues, etc. who may benefit from HealthWell’s assistance.

On Tuesday, December 2, HealthWell will again participate in the global generosity movement known as GivingTuesday, when donors and non-profits team up to transform their communities.

This year, we are reminding people that while HealthWell has already helped over one million patients, millions more still need help. We’ll be sharing real-life stories from those we have been able to assist, highlighting the positive impact a donation to HealthWell can make on the life of a person living with a chronic or life-altering condition.

Our ability to assist patients in accessing and staying on their prescribed medical treatments would not be possible without the trust and support of our generous donors. 100 percent of donations received on GivingTuesday (and every other day of the year!) are put to work immediately to help a patient who has nowhere else to turn.

This GivingTuesday, please help us reach the next million patients. Click here to make your tax-deductible donation.

The Impact of Your Support: “Through Your Help, My Husband Was Able to Acquire His Medications”

We hear from so many patients and their loved ones about how their hopes turned to heartache when they found out that a prescribed medication – one that will cure them or improve their quality of life – is financially out of reach.

Myrna shared what that was like for her husband Tomás, who has been living with Parkinson’s Disease for eight years.

Myrna and Tomás

“Eight years ago, my husband, Tomás, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. This condition is a degenerative condition, so it requires medication every 3 or 4 hours to control involuntary movements, tremors and muscle stiffness. Over the years, his body has resisted the drug treatment that was initially given to him. On medical recommendation, he has to use a medication that, due to its high cost, we could not obtain, and his condition deteriorated.

In June 2025, we turned to the HealthWell Foundation to help us acquire the medicines, since health insurance did not cover them completely. To our surprise, we received the news that the Foundation would support us with a grant. We give thanks to the HealthWell Foundation because through your help my husband was able to acquire his medications, and his quality of life has improved.

God bless the HealthWell Foundation and its donors!” — Myrna V. – Tomás’ Wife

HealthWell Launches TV Ad Campaign in Florida

“When health insurance isn’t enough, don’t walk alone.”

It’s a message HealthWell wants millions of Americans to hear – patients who need assistance, caregivers who need to support their loved ones, health care professionals who refer us to patients, and donors who want to support those in need.

Starting in September, HealthWell brought that message to communities around Florida through a three-month series of hyper-localized, memorable, and emotionally resonant television ads designed to increase awareness of the Foundation and our mission.

Although we are still early in the campaign, we’ve already seen a boost in traffic to our website and calls and emails into our contact center. We’re also seeing increased interest in one-time and recurring giving from individual donors, proving that taking the HealthWell message to key demographics moves the needle in engagement.

We extend our thanks to Comcast and their partners at Mnemonic for their creative talents in producing the spots and for their support of our mission.

Plan Your Year-End Giving Today

Your donation to HealthWell helps us fulfill our mission to reduce financial barriers to care for underinsured patients with chronic or life-altering diseases.

As 2025 comes to a close, you may be thinking about options for making year-end charitable donations. HealthWell would be grateful if we were one of your choices.

When you give to HealthWell, 100 percent of your donation is put to work immediately to assist patients who may otherwise forgo critical, potentially lifesaving, medical treatments simply because they can’t afford them. Millions need our help. You can be that financial lifeline to a patient by:

  1. Making a tax-deductible contribution.
  2. Donating in the name of a loved one or friend.
  3. Naming HealthWell as a recipient of a workplace campaign contribution.

Remember: your donations to HealthWell are tax-deductible, and all donations made before midnight on December 31st count for the 2025 tax year.

Your Support is Crucial – Help Us Spread the Word
