Joyce's Story

Thank you for the opportunity to share my story concerning HealthWell Foundation’s impact on my well-being. I, like so many other recipients of financial assistance, express deep appreciation and gratefulness for these generous grants. 

My journey started 50 years ago with significant gastrointestinal (GI issues). I saw multiple doctors, underwent medical tests and was prescribed medications over the years to no avail. My GI issues were debilitating and constantly affected my daily life. I was unable to do important and necessary things for myself and my family; unable to make plans or commit to anyone or anything. After experiencing worsening and continuing unresolved issues, I sought medical help once again in 2022. I was diagnosed with a condition called Congenital Sucrase-Isomaltase Deficiency (CSID). Following this diagnosis, I was thankful to discover that part of my problem could be resolved with prescribed medication, but I quickly sensed that I would not have access to the medication because of the expense. However, my relief and joy were restored upon learning I would be a recipient of a significant grant from HealthWell to assist with my copay. 

I am profoundly grateful for the Board of Directors’ leadership and vision, for every contribution made by corporations and individuals, and for all HealthWell staff who provide their expertise, knowledge and support to deliver that financial assistance. I never take for granted the difference your gift and the medication make in my life. Thank you!
