The first two quarters of 2025 flew by for the corporate and contact center teams. Since the beginning of the year, we’ve been busy attending dozens of conferences across the nation to spread the word about our programs. We also forged new alliances with organizations who share our passion to help those in need and continued to provide outstanding customer service to the thousands of individuals who reached out to us every month for assistance.

Michael Heimall, President & CEO and Abby Pevey, Senior Manager, Individual Giving and Development

In June, we found an afternoon to step away for a while to celebrate at our annual picnic. During the event, our Development & Individual Giving Team hosted the Pies for PEDS fundraiser which raised over $2,850.00 in support of our Pediatric Assistance Fund. Team members voted for the senior manager they most wanted to be pied and the senior manager who earned the most donations got a tasty treat. Guess who raised the most donations?

Thank you to our dedicated teams for a fun filled afternoon and for your donations so we can assist even more pediatric patients in need! There are lots of updates to share, so I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Uncertainty During a New Era of Health Care – Our Work Continues to Provide Hope

The first half of 2025 saw significant changes to America’s health care landscape and ushered in a new era of uncertainty amid cuts to federal programs that support patient care and fund critical medical research.

Health care costs have long been a subject of political and public debate, and no matter which side of the debate you fall on, one thing is clear: Millions of Americans face very real hardships affording the high cost of medicine and other treatments. This is the reality HealthWell was created to address over two decades ago, and since then, we have been unwavering in our commitment to serving those who, too often, have nowhere else to turn.

As long as there are patients who need our services, we will continue to carry out our mission to provide a financial safety net for underinsured Americans so they can access medical treatments they otherwise could not afford.

Read on to learn how HealthWell helped one patient afford the life-changing medication she desperately needed.

“Having This Huge Financial Worry Taken Off My Shoulders Is Therapeutic”

It always warms our hearts to hear and read words of gratitude from the patients we assist. We recently received a heartfelt letter from Janel B., a thankful recipient of a HealthWell Ovarian Cancer-Medicare Access Fund grant.

“I recently heard from my provider that I have received a grant for my prescription for 2025. Thank you so much for this. I am in my third year of this drug, which I believe to be a lifesaver. It is also one of the most expensive drugs on the market and was certainly a financial burden, especially in that first year. Despite my stage 4 ovarian cancer diagnosis and my previous bout with breast cancer, I am doing really well! Having this huge financial worry taken off my shoulders is amazing. It is so therapeutic in itself, and I thank you.”

We are so pleased we have been able to help ease Janel’s financial burden so she can afford the life-changing treatment she desperately needs. If you would like to support patients like Janel, please consider a donation to HealthWell.

It’s Easier Than Ever to Switch From Medication Copayment to Insurance Premium Assistance

Did you know that eligible Medicare grant recipients can elect a one-time switch from medication copayment assistance to insurance premium assistance? Grant recipients currently enrolled in a HealthWell Medicare Access Fund who have an available grant balance can opt-in to have their remaining copayment assistance grant balance switched to insurance premium (Medicare Part B) assistance. If this is right for you, simply call 800-675-8416 to speak with a HealthWell representative or send an email to [email protected].

Simply enter the diagnosis/ICD-10 code or prescribed medication/treatment into the designated box on our site to see whether we have a fund that covers it. If we don’t, please visit our Resource List to find other organizations that may be able to help.

Cancer Health Summer 2025 Edition – 6th Annual Cancer Health 25 Patient Advocates

Cancer Health empowers people living with cancer to actively manage and advocate for their care and improve their overall health. The site provides accessible information about treatment and quality of life for people with cancer and their loved ones, as well as information about cancer prevention and health policy.

Cancer Health recently shined a spotlight on 25 patient advocates for their unwavering efforts to support the cancer community. We were honored that our President & CEO, Michael S. Heimall, was one of the patient advocates recognized!

Cancer Health also interviewed our Chief Operations Officer, Fred Larbi, about HealthWell and how we connect people with financial help.

Thank you, Cancer Health, for recognizing the importance of our work in assisting oncology patients and for helping us spread the word about our programs and services so we can help even more patients in need.
