Foundation Update

As I mentioned in my last letter, the HealthWell Foundation experienced a year of monumental growth in 2017. Last year, we assisted more than 88,000 underinsured Americans with out-of-pocket costs for life-changing, sometimes life-saving, medical treatments. That’s over 50,000 more patients than we served in 2016 and more than in any other year since HealthWell awarded its first grant in 2004. Just a few short weeks ago, we were proud to launch our newest fund to assist Medicare patients living with Gastric Cancer. Through the fund, we are now able to offer a financial lifeline to assist patients with copayment and premium costs associated with the treatment of their disease.

“Many families that are touched by gastric cancer are struggling to manage the financial burden imposed by specialized medical treatments and hospitalization,” said Paul Gottsegen, co-chair of the Gastric Cancer Foundation. “The new fund from HealthWell provides a crucial bridge to help manage the additional expenses placed on families. This generous initiative will be deeply appreciated and give further cause for hope in their journey as they fight stomach cancer.”
