HealthWell Making a Difference – In the Words of our Patients
In June, 2008, I had my yearly physical and was in great health. Then I went across the hall for a mammogram and discovered things weren't so great. After many tests I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had just had my 72nd birthday. My husband, 80 years young, and I had no doubt we could get through this spiritually, mentally and physically, but didn't know how we would manage financially. We decided that if we had to declare bankruptcy, so be it - but I would get well. We laughed our way through the bald head and fatigue - and the fact that he was 80 years old living with a 72 year old bald headed woman. My surgery was a success, but the cancer was aggressive and recurrence rate is high. When I was ready to start chemo, we met with the finance department and made the first payment. When we went to make the second payment, the finance manager said she thought we might be able to get some help and sent our paperwork to you. When I got my first letter from HealthWell, I cried - then came the second letter and I couldn't believe we had been so blessed. I didn't know what we had done to deserve the kindness of HealthWell. Needless to say, it is almost a year later and I am healthy once again. I can't begin to thank HealthWell for all the help we have received, not only with my chemo, but now with my medication as I enter the Medicare Gap. We have been truly blessed and pray that HealthWell will also be blessed.

Please know how very grateful I am for the help I have received through the HealthWell Foundation. We have our own business that like many others has had to borrow on our equity to keep our dairy farm afloat. After borrowing on that equity – at the worst possible time – I received the cancer diagnosis on my yearly mammogram. Cancer is very expensive…after surgery, radiation and months of chemo. I can’t begin to tell you how appreciated your foundation’s help is. Our insurance has a 6K deductible, we pray to be able to afford the monthly payments and then another 2500 of charges before there is no longer a copay required. This was such a hard time for us and the gratitude we feel for the people who donate to this foundation is very real. Thank you again so much for caring.

My husband and I are so grateful for the help I received this past year. Otherwise it could have thrown us into bankruptcy. Love and prayers that your foundation will continue to grow as you give yourselves to helping so many in need of your assistance.

HealthWell Foundation has been a literal lifesaver for me and as well as my family. By helping me with my copays for a drug that costs around $1500 per month, I am able to have a decent quality of life. This drug keeps me walking and helps with a very, very severe case of psoriatic arthritis. I would be extremely disabled and miserable without it. Thank goodness for organizations like HealthWell that help people enjoy their short time on this earth. Please consider helping this great organization as you never know when you or one of your loved ones will be in a position to need them. Thank you so much!!

I am so very thankful for HealthWell Foundation for their financial help for medication that is so very expensive. As a dialysis patient mostly all (5 out of 11) my medications cost me $200 to $450 a month. Thank God for foundations like HealthWell that help me survive daily with a medication that is needed which I can't afford on social security.

This year I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation, the fourth part of my treatment plan was to begin anti-estrogen medication. When I realized this drug would cost $314 a month, with only half of that covered by my insurance plan, I panicked. I am a recently divorced woman earning only $5000 a year. How was I going to pay for this life-saving medication? My blood pressure went up and my stress was overwhelming. The need for a medication that I could not afford was devastating. I just knew I would have to forgo the drug and take my chances with the return of cancer. Finally, I took an afternoon to do some searching on the internet. Finding several options, it was the Health Well Foundation that answered my prayer. Now, through the generosity of this foundation, I can take my daily medication without the worry of financial ruin from the unwelcome guest of breast cancer.
